On Sunday 6th June 2021, we found out that Life and Rhymes, that I series directed, and hosted by the wonderful, Benjamin Zephaniah, won BAFTA's Best Entertainment Programme!
It's a amazing achievement seeing as we were nominated with the giants of TV entertainment, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, The Masked Singer and Strictly Come Dancing. We didn't have big budgets but a lot of love went into that show. Thought I couldn't be more proud to be nominated in that category, but to win?! Wow.
It was a fantastic experience and I owe lots to Bob Clarke @ Licklemor and Murray Bolland @ CPL, the co pros; SKY arts, especially Phil Edgar Jones and Barbara Lee, the commissioner; a fantastic crew led by HoDs Chris Yacobian, Ben Corbett; my super Script Supers Lulu Haggarty and Jemilah Findlay; and my fantastic Floor Manager, Osi Anyanwu. Karl Silks did an amazing job with Set Design and Art Direction. The show was a brilliant concept, devised by Isaac Nartey and Exec Produced by with wonderful Sharon Ali.
The biggest thanks go to our lovely spoken word artists across the series and the audience, who came to beautiful Battersea bandstand to watch the performances and who stayed with us through the tail end of Storm Francis...
